Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

  Tony Colabella, Owner


Tony graduated with a B. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. After working as an engineer for 25 years in the oil and gas industry, he made a decision to switch to his life long passion of teaching.  He taught math at Costa Rica International Academy.  Tony is enthusiastic about helping every child in the Richmond community to truly understand math by teaching it in the way that makes sense to them. He has taught and tutored children of all ages, and he is committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the community. 

  Larry Martinek, Chief Instructional Officer, Developer of Mathnasium Program


Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has   designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting student’s ability to “do” math, thereby increasing student’s math scores and feelings of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculums ever produced for teaching math.

While Larry is not an Instructor at our Center, He is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students scenarios for guidance and advise. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.




 Noah, Assistant Centre Director


Noah is a third year chemistry major at the University of Victoria. Although he's only had two years of professional tutoring experience, he has always been happy to go out of his way to help friends and family out in a pinch since he was little. When he's not doing school work or tutoring, he likes to find time to practice music on the piano or play guitar together with friends. Noah is excited to continue to teach more in the future through Mathnasium. 

 Sarah, Instructor


Sarah began tutoring early, helping her five younger siblings with their homework around the kitchen table. She loves connecting with students and explaining mathematical concepts in a way that makes sense to them. At Mathnasium, Sarah hopes to instill students with confidence and understanding, so that they can not only use math in school, but apply it in their daily lives.

 Sung, Assistant Centre Director


Sung studies Science behind languages at University of Victoria and always had a tender heart toward growing children and youths. He has experiences in leading language classes and guitar classes, and has been seeking to expand his passion for teaching. By furthering his teaching experience in Mathnasium, Sung endeavors to yield a fruit of understanding and build a strong mathematical foundation in students.

 Tasmin, Instructor


Tasmin enjoys working in an educational setting and currently works at Camosun College as well as tutoring at Mathnasium. She also loves to see the students practicing their math skills and succeeding in learning new concepts. Tasmin holds a Business Degree from U of Manitoba. She is excited to work with students and help them to build a strong foundation in math that will open up many future career paths for students.df

 Faith, Instructor


Faith is in her second year at the University of Victoria studying Biomedical Engineering. She has always had a passion for mathematics and loves working with youth. At Mathnasium, she hopes to be able to connect with students to help them deepen their understanding of math and confidence in their own abilities. When she isn’t working or studying she enjoys being creative by drawing or enjoying the outdoors.
