Robyn Steiner, Owner and Operator
Robyn has over 12 years of teaching experience in the York Region District School board. She holds a Master of Science in Education, is certified as a specialist in special education, and holds additional qualifications in math, autism, reading and english. She has taught primary, junior, intermediate and special education math.
Having been an educator in the public school board and a mother of two little girls, Robyn understands the challenges children face in today's classroom. She believes that every child can succeed in math if given the right tools.
Her passion for making math fun for kids is what led her to join the Mathnasium family.
Rebecca Smith, Director
Rebecca is excited to join the Mathnasium family. She has spent the past several years working with children with autism, helping them integrate into community programs. She has a background in graphic design and fine arts, as well as many years working in sales and marketing.
Rebecca brings a unique perspective to the Mathnasium team. Combining her many years of working with children with her years in the marketing world, makes her the perfect person to help promote the Mathnasium program.
Paul Onica, Centre Manager/Director Vaughan
Paul is the Centre Manager at Mathnasium Vaughan. He has a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in
Melissa Stallone, Lead Instructor
an Ontario Certified Teacher. Aside from teaching math Melissa loves playing sports, spending time with friends/family, and travelling when she can.

Marc Motica, Instructor
Marc graduated with a Bachelor of Mathematics at Trent University. He was a student teacher as part of his teaching program at Trent and has always wanted to continue his love for teaching after graduating.
Marc has always thought that mathematics was an excellent way to develop reasoning and problem solving skills. He excels at helping students understand the many different ways to solve a problem and teaches with the appropriate method for them.
His favourite activities include video and board games, playing chess and travelling!
Damen Phang, Instructor
Damen is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a B.A.Sc degree in Chemical Engineering. He joind Mathnasium to help spread the joy of math and problem solving to students of all ages and grades! He has previous experience in editing essays and teaching math and science to small groups. Damen enjoys video games, reading, and is known fondly at Mathnasium as the Instructor with the long-winded, enthusiastic and ever-growing run-on introduction! "Aaaaand....weeelcome back to Mathnasium@Home....all the fun of Mathnasium...at home...." (well you have to enroll to hear the rest hehe ; ) ).
Benjamin Nguyen, Instructor
Having always been fascinated by the uniqueness of the mind embedded in each one of us, Benjamin is currently pursuing his long-term academic career at York University to become a clinical psychologist. Despite this career path, the exhilaration of math within him seems to have never been extinguished. He has been a member of the Mathnasium family since December 2019 and there has not been a day that he has not enjoyed his interactions with our Mathletes. Whether it's grins, giggles, or crackups about school or their days, or venting about other life dramas, Benjamin enjoys counceling and teaching the kids.
Rachel Levy, Lead Instructor
Rachel is currently studying psychology and concurrent education at York University, with plans to become a primary school teacher. She is enthusiastic about working with children and learning and growing alongside them. Her love for math began in grade 6 after having a passionate teacher who made learning understandable and fun.
She enjoys reading, painting and spending time outdoors. She has previously worked at a summer camp and has volunteered with children and youth with special needs for several years.
Antonio Nardi, Lead Instructor
Antonio is currently in his fourth year at York University. He is very skilled and passionate about math! Antonio is determined to contribute to the growth and development of Mathnasium Vaughan and its students! His top priority is to help students with any misunderstandings that may occur and to help them to start enjoying math as he did in school. He also strives to create a positive space for children and High School aged students alike, while helping them build their math skills and confidence levels. Antonio prides himself on being sympathetic, kind, and compassionate and his teaching style reflects this.
Clement Linardi, Lead Instructor
Clement is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering degree, majoring in Mechatronics, at Ryerson University. He has taken A-Level examinations in math, physics and chemistry and loves to share his knowledge with our Mathletes. Clement has been working with kids since his high school days and also in his church community. He joined Mathnasium because of his love for math and to help students to gain confidence and to feel comfortable when facing math problems. During his leisure time, Clement enjoys playing badminton and video games, as well as playing the piano.
Maryam Mohamedali, Lead Instructor
Maryam is currently working towards her Bachelors of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business. From a young age, Maryam has always enjoyed learning and problem solving her way through complex math problems. She loves working with kids to explain math and help them love math as much as she does! When she isn’t teaching, Maryam loves to read, play sports, go travelling and spend time with friends and family!
Quinton Weyrich, Instructor
Quinton is an undergraduate physics student at York University. Math and science have always been lifelong fascinations of his, and it was through helping his friends back in high school, that made him realize that he loved to teach! The feeling of seeing comprehension dawn in in someone's eyes because of the insights you have shared and provided, is one of the best feelings in the world for Quinton and is what initially drew him to join the team at Mathnasium. He values his training and experience using the Mathnasium Method and believes that it will equip him with the teaching skills he needs to help students succeed.
In his spare time, Quinton enjoys writing and making music, as welll as watching YouTube videos about math (yes, he really does like it that much!). Mathematics isn't just important, it can also be beautiful and fun! Quinton intends to prove this to our students.
Zach Leopold, Assistant Lead Instructor
Zach is currently a grade 11 student at Westmount Collegiate Institute. He loves working with kids of all ages, and is always focused on entertaining and bringing a smile to everyone’s faces.
Jessica Allen, Instructor
Jessica is a grade 11 student at Alexander Mackenzie High School. She has always loved math and working with kids, so being an instructor at Mathnasium is the perfect job for her! She loves to dance and go to camp every summer. Her favourite school subjects are math and chemistry.
Lauren Um, Instructor
Lauren is currently a Grade 12 student at De La Salle College. Mathematics has always been her favourite subject at school. She loves the way that mathematical problems can be solved using a variety of strategies. Her students appreciate her calm and encouraging manner. Each week, she looks foward to teaching her students at Mathnasium. When she is not teaching, or doing homework, you will Lauren playing her guitar, watching YouTube, or playing games.
Ines De La Roca, Instructor
Inés is currently a grade 12 Francophone student with Conseil Scolaire Viamonde. She takes great pride in being able to help students of all ages grasp mathematical concepts and develop their critical thinking skills. She has found teaching at Mathnasium to be very rewarding as she is able to celebrate each and every student’s math success story.
Post secondary, Inés is looking towards a career in medicine. She has previously volunteered on a regular basis in a hospital, where she has learned it is important to be kind, compassionate and respectful towards others.
During her free time, Inés enjoys playing piano and the drums.
Robert Dobos, Instructor
Larry Martinek, Chief Instructional Officer (Headquarters)
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curricula, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting student's ability to "do" math, thereby increasing student's math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium's educational program - one of the most comprehensive and innovative curricula ever produced for teaching math.
The Difference in Mathnasium Instructors
Mathnasium instructors are more than just tutors. They are math experts who are passionate about mathematics and teaching children in a way that makes sense. Our instructors are different from typical tutors because they have all been trained to focus on your student's long-term mathematical development, including the development of Number Sense.
In each session our instructors will interact with and engage your child. Their goal is to help students understand their own thinking. Instructors use unique questioning methods to draw the answers from our students rather than use a "lecture" style method often used in schools and by private tutors.
Our rigorous hiring process is designed to ensure we hire only the best. Each candidate is thoroughly tested on their math ability, including all critical elementary and high school topics. All instructors must have teaching, or tutoring experience with children. As part of the interview process, all instructors are expected to complete a trial tutoring session where we observe their teaching style and interaction with kids.
Mathnasium receive training on the proper teaching style and how to teach the Mathnasium curriculum. This training is ongoing and is designed to improve the teaching and communication methods used in our centre.
