Larry Martinek, Creator of the Mathnasium Method
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculas ever produced for teaching math.
While Larry is not an Instructor at our Centre, he is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.
Charith Ariyaratne, Centre Director
Charith is currently a student at British Colombia Institute of Technology, working for his Degree in Information Technology. Being the eldest in a family who has two younger siblings, he always has had a passion in taking care of little kids and enjoy working with them. Sports has been one of his favorite areas; he engaged with Cricket and Basketball from his early childhood, allowing him to develop his community partnerships, team work and leadership skills. He talks about his Math skills by phrasing “After migrating to Canada in age of 14, I was very scared to go for the classes like English, Socials etc. But Math was the one and only class I was fitted and comfortable in”.
“Teaching Math in a Way it makes sense to them” strikes Charith’s ambition in working as the Centre Director at Mathnasium. He loves to see the light bulbs in child’s head when they understand math concepts.
