Kyle Tan, Centre Director
Kyle is the Owner and Centre Director at Mathnasium of Meadowvale. Prior to opening his Mathnasium centre, Kyle worked with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, leading a global team in the service delivery of Business Intelligence to companies in Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. He has a BA in Information Technology from York University. Having witnessed how his friends struggled with Math in school and work, Kyle understands that people tend to struggle and subsequently hate Math when they are confused and intimidated by Math. Kyle is extremely enthusiastic about helping every child to truly understand math by teaching it in a way that makes sense to them. Married with a daughter, Kyle plans to introduce her daughter to the Mathnasium Methods when she gets older.
Larry Martinek, Chief Instructional Officer, Developer of Mathnasium Program
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city to public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials designed to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curricula ever produced for teaching math.
While Larry is not an Instructor at our Centre, He is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.

This path to teaching has lead Marium through many teaching-related opportunities; giving her a total of 10 years of experience in tutoring and student teacher positions. At Mathnasium, Marium wishes to grow as a teacher and utilize the effective methods that Mathnasium stands for to teach students math in a way that not only makes sense but stays with them even once they've graduated. Marium is currently on maternity leave.

I continued on to work for the Toronto District Board of Education as a classroom teacher for 26 years teaching from Kindergarten to Grade Four. I am officially retired from teaching as of September 1 2018 but I want to continue learning and teaching and teaching Math the Mathnasium way seems very effective to me. Outside of Mathnasium, I enjoy volunteering at a Food Bank, reading, walking, doing crossword puzzles, and meeting up with friends for a coffee.

Selina Sun, Instructor
Selina is a Grade 12 high school student who enjoys cooking, skiing and dedicating her time toward teaching others. Outside of Mathnasium, she is actively involved in her school’s peer tutoring program that helps students in younger grades with subjects in which they struggle. Selina has had previous experience tutoring students from grades 1-5 in subjects such as French and Math before working at Mathnasium. This has helped her develop the necessary skills to help others strengthen their understanding of the concepts and fundamentals of math. Her passion for teaching comes from wanting to help others succeed and reach their full potential. Despite being a Grade 12, Selina was brought into the team because of her ability to deliver instructions clearly and connect with students while teaching.
