Daisy Pardhan, Centre Director
Daisy Pardhan is the Owner and Director of the new Crowfoot Mathnasium. Daisy graduated from University of Alberta in 2006 with a Bachelor of Education. She taught in Calgary classrooms for 6 years and then branched into the Educational Software industry-Mathletics. Utilizing this experience, Daisy was able to understand firsthand the disconnection between the teaching methodology in many classrooms and how students processed the curriculum. Her experience in the Educational technology space, specifically math software, allowed her to clearly understand the missing pieces and the notion that “one size does not fit all”. Daisy was captivated by the Mathnasium method and stated, “We use a personalized learning approach as each child processes and interprets math differently."
Daisy’s 3 main goals at this learning centre are:
- Breaking free of the fixed mindset. Children have a preconceived notion that math is hard. Mathnasium breaks through this wall, enabling children to understand the various types of mathematical strategies.
- Creating a customized learning environment for each child, resulting in self satisfaction within their learning.
- Providing children with a calm pleasant environment, allowing them to believe math does not have to be frustrating but enjoyable!
Esther te Linde, Instructor
Esther recently graduated with a BASc in Environmental Engineering from a joint program with the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia. Esther is enthusiastic when it comes to teaching math and wants to inspire kids to gain the confidence and skills needed to excel so they can reach their own personal goals. From an early age Esther excelled in math while she developed a passion for teaching and sharing her knowledge with others. She continues to develop a passion through her university degree by supporting engineering students across Canada by teaching them about professional and leadership development. Besides teaching math, Esther uses her spare time to challenge herself and develop new skills such as learning Dutch, and engaging in new activities such as cross-country skiing, and wake-boarding.
Jera Guevarra, Instructor
Jera is a student in University of Calgary, an aspiring teacher who is currently working towards her degree in B.Sc. in General Mathematics. She has always had that passion in learning mathematics and teaching mathematics to students of different levels. She hopes to share that passion of learning mathematics to the younger generation and to be the kind of teacher that makes Math interesting and builds curiosity within students. During her early years of education, like most kids, she’s very doubtful about the importance of learning math, but as the years went by, she came to love it and realized the significance of it in our daily lives. Outside her mathematical endeavours, she also has a minor in Japanese and can speak 3 languages fluently. She enjoys indoor and outdoor activities such as, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, working out and hiking. She also has a passion on doing mission trips, volunteering and traveling.
Jacquelynn Adie, Instructor
Jacquelynn is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing program at Mount Royal University. Jacquelynn has worked with kids for over 10 years and is passionate about teaching math in a way that makes sense to them. Jacquelynn previously worked at Mathnasium of Saskatoon for 2 years, and she loved it so much she decided to come work at Mathnasium again when she moved to Calgary. In her free time, Jacquelynn loves playing volleyball, kayaking, and hiking, and shooting archery.
Mike Heney, Instructor
Mike is currently attending the University of Calgary in their Concurrent Education program, working towards both a BSc in General Mathematics, and a Bachelor of Education. He has always had a passion for learning, and the puzzling nature of mathematics has made it his favourite subject. He is following in the footsteps of his father, who taught high school math in Ontario for almost 30 years. From BEDMAS to Trigonometry, Fractions to Imaginary Numbers (it’s okay, he doesn’t fully understand them either), Mike has always found enjoyment and success in the field of mathematics. Mike is also an avid singer, having sung with Revv52 in Calgary since the fall of 2015.
Shaant Gangapersad, Instructor
Shannt is currently in his 3rd year of civil engineering at the University of Calgary. He has always had a passion for mathematics and has even participated in numerous math competitions in his younger years. Shaant wants to share his passion and knowledge with others as teaching is something he loves to do! In addition to that, he is currently the Vice President in operations at the Civil Engineering Society at University of Calgary. Shaant is fluent in 3 languages with French being his first language. He also has a passion in soccer, basketball, music and hiking.
Joey Koay, Instructor
Joey is currently a grade 12 student. She was always eager to learn math and kept asking questions like the "whys" and "hows". She has an in-depth understanding of math as she has finished calculus in Grade 11. Instead of being the student who is asking the questions, she would now like to be the person who answers them. Just recently, she received the highest score in her school for both Hypatia and Fermat in 2019, a mathematics contest that is held by the University of Waterloo! Her passion is not limited to math; she also enjoys various activities which include playing badminton, camping, and coding.
Maryam Lo, Instructor
Maryam is currently attending her 4th year at the University of Calgary. She is majoring in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology. While in high school, math has always been one of her favorite subjects. As she focuses mostly on biology these days, she still finds herself missing the beauty of mathematics! To stay connected to math, Maryam volunteered at the Calgary library in their Math Quest program for a year before finding out about the math universe of Mathnasium. Now she can pursue both of her Biology and Math Interest. In her free time Maryam loves to bake, play tennis and volunteer.
