Why do children Struggle in math?

When kids start accumulating gaps or missing some key foundational math skills, they find it very difficult to keep up in class. As the teachers are busy they might not have time to pay much attention to each and every child individually.  Also the teachers are expected to cover vast amounts of material in a short period of time. So, teachers must move quickly to stay “on schedule. If your child doesn't get a chance to master a skill for whatever reason, obviously, he or she tends to fall behind.

It’s unfortunate! The class moves on! Here come multiplication facts, fractions, percentages, decimals, mixed numbers, exponents, ratios, x=?, divisibility rules, algebra, geometry, equations and so on... It never slows down, so your child can’t catch up! He/ She started feeling confused, frustrated, embarrassed, and all alone!  Finally, he/ she think "I'm just not good in math, math is hard!". They lose all confidence in themselves !

Now you are in a position to find a tutor for your Child.

How is Mathnasium Different ?

Great Question! The very first thing we do is give your child a skills assessment. It is both a written and oral assessment so that we can get a deep understanding of not only what they know, but how they think!

We sit down with them, put them at ease, and give them an assessment that doesn't feel too easy or too hard. Most importantly, we find out HOW THEY LEARN! Then we build their trust by giving them a few ideas and strategies that they can use immediately. We use the results to build a customized learning plan that targets skill gaps and quickly shows them success. In many cases “success” in math is something they have been craving!

Will a private tutor work?

Unfortunately, private tutors are a temporary fix for a long term problem. Private tutors only help children "survive" today’s homework. They don't address the foundational skills. In most cases, private tutoring is not going to be a meaningful long term solution.

How is Mathnasium different?

Skills Assessment: We give your child both a written and oral assessment so that we can get a deep understanding of your child; current skill level, skill gaps, what they know and don’t know as well as HOW THEY LEARN! Also at the assessment, we build their trust by giving them a few ideas and strategies that they can use immediately.

Customized learning Plan: We, then build a customized learning plan that targets skill gaps and quickly shows them success. In many cases “success” in math is something they have been craving!

Why is confidence in math important?

Kids need to see that they can do the work so that they can feel confident! This new confidence will spill over to many other areas of your child's life. When they build the confidence and the skills to do math you will see it from their faces and they'll start bringing home better grades from school. Building Confidence is not just important: It's critical!

How do we build your Child’s Confidence at Mathnasium?

Mathnasium Instructors are positive, friendly, inspiring Math experts that work one on one, in group setting, with your child.  They teach and work through problems together until they see the kids are learnt the concepts.  Then the instructor steps back and lets your child work independently to give them time to process this new information without the pressure and stress of being watched.  Instructors are at the floor, come back after a minute or two in order to make sure they are doing the problems correctly, give them encouragement, and praise them for their efforts! If the student needs more help we simply teach the lesson again in a different way without judgment or ridicule until they "get it."

This enables your child to become a "confident, independent learner."

Does Mathnasium really work ?
