Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

Linh Vu, Owner

Linh is the Owner of Mathnasium of Bayview Sheppard.  Linh's extensive knowledge of mathematics education and curriculum make her a valuable asset to the centre. For nearly 20 years, Linh has worked with leading math experts, publishers, and the Ministry of Education to create mathematics learning materials for K-12 classrooms. Currently, Linh is working with a leading math publisher on the development of a brand new national core math series for K-9 schools and a pre-calculus student and teacher resource for Grades 11 and 12.

Linh's commitment to education in the STEM fields and her belief in the importance of providing children with a strong foundation of mathematical learning led her to Mathnasium. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto Honours Physics program and has lived in the Bayview York Mills area for close to 20 years.

Linh's 13-year-old twin boys have grown up in the neighbourhood school system and are avid math learners. She looks forward to developing your child's love of math and is excited to be an active partner in your child's education.

Nadia Rodionova, Centre Director

Nadia is an Ontario Certified Math Teacher for both the Intermediate and Senior Divisions, and she has been with Mathnasium of Bayview Sheppard from the first day we opened our doors! She also holds a Master of Education from the University of Toronto and a bachelor's degree in teaching mathematics from Russia, where she worked as a high school math teacher for several years. Nadia is passionate when it comes to teaching math. She strives to make math not only understandable, but interesting and engaging.

Nadia encourages students to achieve excellent results through an individual approach, teaching not just algorithms, but more importantly how to reason independently, critically, and conclusively. Her areas of interest in teaching mathematics also include mathematical creativity, teaching mathematics for social justice, and multicultural math education. In her free time, Nadia enjoys spending quality time with her toddler and pursuing visual arts in all its forms. As an artist, Nadia has recently been exploring landscape and still life painting.

Stefania Innocente, Assistant Centre Director

Stefania is one of our most experienced instructors, having been with Mathnasium for over 3 years. She is in the 5th year of the Concurrent Education program at York University studying to become a teacher. Stefania is also working to complete her undergraduate degree in French and Mathematics.

Stefania has worked with all ages of children through volunteer work, and wants to be a positive influence by inspiring them to learn and grow. She loves math and strives to make math make sense so students can feel confident approaching any concept! Aside from math, Stefania loves to sing, read, travel, and cook.

David Ku, Lead Instructor

David has a Bachelor of Arts in Financial Mathematics and a Master of Science In Statistics. Before Mathnasium, he worked as a peer tutor and as a mathematics teaching assistant for high school students and for first year university students. He has experience teaching a variety of math subjects, including calculus, linear algebra, introductory statistics, and introduction to mathematics for finance.

David’s approach to teaching mathematics is to keep things simple and to be aware of multiple approaches to solve math problems. He knows that each student is unique, so David always co

mes equipped with differentiated instruction techniques to ensure that students learn the math in a way that makes sense to them.

In his spare time, David likes to cook, watch Counter-Strike on, and do classes at his fitness kickboxing gym.

At Mathnasium, our primary prerequisites for instructors are to be excellent at math, to interact well with children, and to be able to teach exceptionally.  Our instructors include certified math teachers, university graduates of math, physics, aeronautical engineering, computer science, and statistics.

We find that children are inspired by those who have taken their math knowledge and are looking to apply it in the real world.  Our instructors become role models to our students, showing them that math doesn't have to be intimidating and can be fun.  We have even had younger students express their goal of wanting to be a Mathnasium instructor and help kids learn math when they grow up.  I don't think it is saying too much that Mathnasium instructors change lives, helping students to achieve their full potential, and encouraging them to embrace math instead of giving up on it.
