Achieving academic excellence through Psychoeducational Assessment
Feb 6, 2020
Psychometric tests or assessments, according to the Institute of Psychometric Coaching, are standard and scientific methods used to measure individuals’ mental capabilities and behavioral styles. This test is relevant to both adults and children for measuring a candidate’s suitability to roles or in helping children to achieve academic excellence.
A thorough psychoeducational assessment will help to identify and intervene early in a child's learning challenges. The evaluation will provide a clear picture of the child's learning difficulties and how best to address these challenges without causing harm to the mental and emotional development of the child. It will help to create a picture of the child’s unique learning profile by assessing current cognitive functioning and gaining insight into the child’s strengths and weaknesses.
According to Alberta Counselling Centre, “A psychoeducational assessment offers a more accurate and complete picture of your child that can change the way your child is perceived, and ensure that appropriate educational programming and accommodations necessary for success are recommended.”
Alberta Counselling Centre recommends that your child may need Psychoeducational assessments if you observed the following:
- Noticed sign of learning disability
- Underachieving academically
- Teacher Observation/Advice
- If the teachers suspect Attention-Deficiency / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- The child is having behavioral and social challenges at school
After the assessment, an educational program that will focus on the specific needs of the child will be identified and developed for the child. This will be based on the recommendations from the specialist. It may be very challenging for the teachers and the schools to accomplish this because of the additional resources required and the current structure of the school. Currently, some parents use the service of Mathnasium, the Math Learning Centre, to provide this vital help.
Mathnasium is a math-only learning Centre. The instructors use proven methods and materials to deliver customized learning plans that empower 2nd-12th graders to engage in and enjoy learning at their levels. The goal is to help our students master Math, build confidence, and develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Mathnasium believes is that “Math Makes Sense.” When a child accepts this fact, excitement grows, grades improve, doors open, and lives are transformed.
Other benefits of enrolling a child in the Mathnasium program include; homework support, preparation towards standard and school exams, continuous assessments, ongoing communication, and collaboration with teachers in school.
Mathnasium Airdrie has the right environment for children to learn Math and trained and friendly instructors that motivate children to achieve their potentials.
